FAQ
The following are frequently asked questions...if you still need answers please do not hesitate to call or email your questions to us! It will be our pleasure to answer your questions to the best of our knowledge in a timely manner.
Ø Does The River Flood? Are the houses safe from floods?
Occasionally the Choctawhatchee River does flood. We have experienced three floods in the last ten years. Weather and rain determines the water level.
Ø Can we still make our trip if the river is flooded?
The height of the river flood will determine accessibility to Choctaw Lodge by road. As long as the roads are open and pose no danger to our guests, we will be open for business.
Ø What are the road conditions going into Choctaw Lodge?
Once you turn onto Cowford Road from Highway 20, it's a dirt road (refer to map) for approximately two miles to Choctaw Lodge. Our roads are maintained by the county and graded weekly.
Ø Does Choctaw Lodge have Wheelchair Access?
Due to the flood plains, all three houses are built on stilts with stairs leading up to each house. There is no wheelchair access.
Ø What season is the best time of year to visit the lodge?
Each season offers new and different things to experience on the Choctawhatchee River. Depending on your time with us, there is wildlife, plant life and adventures year round. The weather is normally pleasant from March through October. Although pleasant, June, July and August are the warmest months.
Ø Can we bring our own canoes, kayaks and boats?
Canoes and kayaks are available at no extra charge to our guests; however you may bring your own if you choose to do so. You may also launch your own motor boat at our boat ramp located next to the boat house. We recommend that you talk to one of our Captains about bringing your own boat, prior to your arrival.

Ø Do you run boat trips daily?
Trips are ran daily, however, the Captain has the right to refuse a trip if he feels there is danger to the guests due to water conditions, weather and the well being or safety of the guest.
Ø Are children welcome at Choctaw Lodge?
The lodge is not recommended for small children and takes no responsibility for harm due to the dangers of the river.
Ø Are there mosquitoes and yellow flies?
During the summer months you may experience mosquitoes and yellow flies. The screened in porches give ample protection from the bothersome insects. We also run a mosquito magnet which helps prevent problems with the insects on property. We recommend bug spray in the early mornings and late afternoons when insects are in season.
Ø Are Pets allowed?
Sorry no pets allowed. We do have two resident dogs on property; however they will not be in either the guest house or boat house at any time.
Ø If the houses are non smoking, is there a designated are to smoke?
You may smoke outdoors. We ask that you discard your cigarette butts in an outdoor receptacle after smoking and once the cigarette has been extinguished.
Ø What can we expect to see on the river and on property?
Please refer to our Trips and Activities for Guest page for additional information.
